About Us

HighTea makes hand-crafted cannabis gummies in a Cape Town kitchen. The business is owned by Gerry, who started making gummies in 2020 after a rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis diagnosis led her to cannabis. She'd spent thirty years feeding people, running canteens at PwC, Alexander Forbes and other big Sandton corporates, and the same care she brought to that work goes into every batch. Most orders go out with a little something extra to try. Most customers come back.

Gerry's Story

In 2020, at sixty, Gerry lost almost everything. Her business went under, she sold her car and most of what she owned, and she moved back in with her children to start over. Not long after, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Between the pain, the spasms and the exhaustion, she thought the life she knew was finished.

Her neurologist suggested cannabis. Gerry was sceptical. She'd always pictured cannabis users as stoners, and now she was the one being told to try it. Her eldest son, Craig, pointed her back to the one thing she'd always been good at: the kitchen. She'd spent three decades feeding people, running the canteens at Health & Racket (later acquired by Virgin Active), at Caxtons in Johannesburg and at PwC in Sandton, catering for big Sandton corporates along the way. If she was going to do this, she'd do it the way she knew how.

So she started reading everything she could find on cannabis, CBD and THC, and how people were cooking with it. Her youngest son bought her first seeds. She grew and harvested her first plant, then realised she had no idea what to do with it, so she experimented. The first thing she made was calming CBD biscuits for dogs and cats, which she sold on the Cape Town beachfront until they got popular enough to land in a few shops.

Then a neighbour passed her a gummy over the wall, and something clicked. Gerry started making her own. By her own account the first batches were terrible, waxy and rough, and people bought them anyway. Every batch got better: the texture, the flavour, the dosing. Somewhere in there she stopped rebuilding a life and started building a business.

Today she runs that business hands-on, and she still personally delivers free gummies to elderly people and cancer patients in hospitals and old-age homes around Cape Town who can't always afford them. That's not marketing. It's how she runs.

How We Work

The gummies are made by hand by Gerry and her small team. Small batches, recipes refined over hundreds of orders, nothing out the door she has not signed off on. The vapes and pre-rolls she does not make herself, so she does the next best thing and sources them from a small set of suppliers she trusts, with lab-tested inputs, held to the same standard as her own kitchen. If it is not good enough for her, it is not on the site.

The personal part is not a gimmick. Most orders go out with a free sample to try, something new or something we think you will like. When you message us, you are talking to someone on the team, usually Molleen, not a script. The words that come up most in our reviews are discreet, reliable, and like buying from a friend. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and it is why people reorder.

Where We Are

HighTea is a Cape Town business first. Order before 2pm and Dale will get it to you the same day if you are in the city. Dale runs the Cape Town rounds himself, which is why same-day actually means same-day here. For everywhere else in South Africa, we ship discreetly by courier, usually overnight to the major centres.

The reviews, more than 900 of them at 4.9 stars, come from all over: Cape Town, Stellenbosch, the Garden Route, Joburg, the Karoo. The brand started in one kitchen. It travels well.
